Head Of Department’s Message

Dear Students,

Dear young friends, engineers of the future,

Our department was established to provide mechanical engineering education in accordance with national and international standards starting in 2025.

Mechanical engineering actually has a history as old as humanity itself. We see its traces everywhere, from the first simple tools to the wheel and water mills. But the real turning point was the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. The steam engine multiplied production, accelerated transportation with trains and ships. Imagine, factories began operating with steam power! Electric motors, internal combustion engines… and then, thanks to the assembly line, cars became accessible to everyone. Airplanes conquered the skies. All of these are evidence of how mechanical engineers have expanded humanity’s horizons and made our lives easier.

So, where is mechanical engineering today? Actually, it’s everywhere you look. From the smartphone in your hand to the car you drive, from the appliances you use to medical devices, you can see the traces of mechanical engineering in everything. Mechanical engineers work in many fields, from automotive to aviation, energy to robotics, medical technology to the defense industry. New-generation robots, artificial intelligence-supported production systems, autonomous vehicles… All of these are possible thanks to the systems designed, developed, and optimized by mechanical engineers.

Looking to the future, the role of mechanical engineering is becoming even more critical. Challenges such as global climate change, the energy crisis, and limited resources are forcing us to produce more efficient and sustainable solutions. This is where mechanical engineers come into play.

The development of renewable energy sources—solar panels, wind turbines… The design of production processes that consume less energy and produce less waste… The advancement of electric vehicle technology… All of these are areas led by mechanical engineers. As the mechanical engineers of the future, you will be the architects of a new era known as Industry 5.0, integrated with artificial intelligence and automation. You will produce smart and environmentally friendly solutions for a more livable world.

Dear friends,

If you are open to innovation, enjoy problem-solving, and take pleasure in designing and producing, mechanical engineering is a field that offers you unlimited opportunities. This profession is not just a career; it is a mission that shapes humanity’s future and has the potential to make the world a better place. For this very reason, we invite everyone who wishes to build a career in this field to join the Mechanical Engineering Department at Istanbul Gedik University, which has strong ties to industry.

I wish you all success.

Head of Mechanical Engineering Department
