Mechanical Engineering (English)

Mechanical Engineering is one of the most basic engineering branches. Mechanical engineering is the oldest and the broadest discipline that applies the principles of engineering to the design, research and construction of machines. Most engineering disciplines have evolved with understanding of mechanical scıence throughout the history. For this reason, it contributes to all other branches of engineering. In the industrial field, Mechanical Engineering is concerned with machines, energy and production methods.

Domestic appliances that are an inseparable part of human life, devices used in medical diagnosis and treatment in medicine, machinery and vehicles used in automotive, ship, aircraft, marine and space technologies, lifting appliances, textile machines, motors, steam and gas turbines, jet motors, and robots are designed and produced in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Therefore, mechanical engineers have the ability to work in almost every field of industry, such as design, production, quality control, sales, maintenance and repair.

MISSION

The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (English) at the Faculty of Engineering, Istanbul Gedik University, is to educate creative, innovative, and ethically grounded engineers who are socially responsible and specialized in the field of Mechanical Engineering, and to ensure they possess international competence.

VISION

Our vision is to be a leading department offering education at universal standards in contemporary engineering fields such as innovative production technologies, advanced materials science, and digital manufacturing processes, meeting the needs of the modern age. Leveraging Istanbul Gedik University’s strong ties with industry, we aim to be a pioneering education and research center that seamlessly integrates theory and practice, and by leveraging the advantage of English-language instruction, achieves a respected position in global academic networks, thereby enhancing the international recognition of both our university and our country.

OBJECTIVE

To understand the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, use the universal scientific knowledge, follow the technological developments in the field, and provide graduates with advanced research skills, participant and professional ethics.

GOAL

• To prepare students for a successful engineering career by introducing mathematics, science and engineering knowledge for solving mechanical engineering problems.
• To prepare students with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to design and produce a machine, component, system or process in accordance with relevant standards and limitations by taking into account economics, efficiency, environmental and social impacts.
• To prepare students to provide leadership and / or work as a member of multi-disciplinary teams in the institutions and organizations where the mechanical engineering profession is applied. To gain the ability of effective oral and written communication for this purpose.
• To provide the students to comprehend the effects of the profession on the global and social dimensions, professional ethical responsibilities and the social-cultural effects of engineering.
• To provide the necessary opportunities for students to be informed about actual and contemporary issues.
• To make students perceive the importance of graduate and lifelong learning and to prepare students for this education by providing a strong engineering infrastructure.
• To prepare students for the beginning of the profession by specializing in the field of mechanical engineering applications of their choice.
