IGUN-TÖMER Language Levels

At IGUN-TÖMER, course levels are structured according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS
A1 At this level, the student can understand and use simple sentences. They can introduce themselves and others, and respond to basic questions about where they live, who they know, and what they have. They can communicate using simple sentences in everyday situations.
A2 The student can understand commonly used phrases related to areas of immediate relevance, such as personal and family information, shopping, local geography, and employment. They can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information on familiar matters.
B1 When spoken to clearly, the student can describe events and experiences, express dreams, hopes, and ambitions. They can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar topics such as work, school, and leisure. They can handle most situations likely to arise while traveling in a region where the language is spoken.
B2 The student can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization. They can express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects, presenting arguments for and against various viewpoints.
C1 The student can use the language effectively and flexibly for academic, professional, and everyday purposes. They can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. They can produce well-structured, detailed texts on complex topics, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors, and cohesive devices.

Placement Test

A Placement Test is administered to determine the appropriate course level for each student. Based on the test results, students are placed into the corresponding level.

A2 50-59
B1 60-69
B2 70-79
C1 80-100

Level Completion Exam

In order for a student to successfully complete the current level and advance to the next, they must pass the Level Completion Exam. To pass the exam, the student must achieve at least the minimum required score, as set by IGUN-TOMER, in each of the four skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Students who fail to meet the required criteria must repeat the same level. Students who demonstrate success at B2 level or above are awarded a Turkish Language Certificate.

Level Completion Exams are evaluated out of a total of 100 points. To advance to the next level, a student must obtain:

  • At least 15 points in each skill area (reading, listening, writing, and speaking),
  • And a minimum total score of 70 points.
