How can I register at IGUN-TOMER?

  • Students who have completed their university registration apply to the TOMER office with their passport and student documents. Students are registered for the Placement Exam, and they are informed about the date and time of the exam. After the exam, the student’s placement in the appropriate course is completed according to their success score.

Do I need to be a student at Istanbul Gedik University to study at IGUN-TOMER?

  • It is not necessary to be a university student to study at IGUN-TOMER. Prospective students can apply to the TOMER office with their passport, residence certificate, and proof of payment. They are registered for the Placement Exam and informed about the date and time of the exam. After the exam, course placement is completed according to the score they achieve.

Which exam must a student take before course registration at IGUN-TOMER?

  • Students must take the Placement Exam. Based on the success score they achieve in the exam, registration for the appropriate course can be completed. However, if they wish, they can also be directly registered for the A1 course upon request.

How can students apply for the exams?

  • Students must apply to the TOMER office within 2 weeks from their university registration date. Course participants can apply at any time by submitting the required documents to the TOMER office to complete their exam registration.

What score do I need to pass the exam?

  • To pass the exam, a student must score at least 15 points in each of the Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking sections, and achieve a total score of at least 70 points.

What is the exam fee?

  • The exam fee is currently set at 100 US Dollars (USD). This fee is only paid by course participants; students of our university do not need to pay any fee for the exam.

LEVEL PLACEMENT EXAM/CERTIFICATION EXAM IMPLEMENTATION GUIDELINES

  • The Level Placement Exam/Certification Exam is designed to assess the language proficiency of foreign students learning Turkish as a foreign language. The exam is administered by the Istanbul Gedik University Turkish Education Application and Research Center IGUN-TOMER in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It evaluates the skills of Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking at levels A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1.The exam is conducted in two parts. In the first part, candidates are tested on Reading, Listening, and Writing skills, comprising 50 questions for Reading, 10 questions for Listening, and 1 task for Writing.

    In the second part, the Speaking skill is assessed. This section includes 2 tasks in total: 1 task for independent speaking and 1 task for interactive/conversational speaking. The examiner administering the exam asks these questions and may pose additional questions as needed to evaluate the candidate’s speaking proficiency comprehensively. A 15-minute break is scheduled between the first and second parts of the exam.

The exam lasts a total of 150 minutes, with 140 minutes allocated to the first part (Reading, Listening, and Writing) and 10 minutes for the second part (Speaking). The duration of each section is as follows: Reading – 80 minutes, Listening – 30 minutes, Writing – 30 minutes, Speaking – 10 minutes.

Do students have the right to retake the exam if they fail?

  • Yes, students can retake the same exam after 2 months.

How and where can I check my exam results?

  • Exam results are shared with students/participants via email once they are announced.

What are the exemption requirements at IGUN-TOMER?

  • Students who wish to be exempt must provide proof of their Turkish proficiency. Exemption is granted after verifying the authenticity of the diploma or certificate for students who have graduated from Turkish-language educational institutions in Turkey within the last three years, have completed a Turkish-language associate, undergraduate, or graduate program at a university in Turkey, or hold a valid TOMER Turkish Certificate. Students without such documentation may choose to take the IGUN-TOMER Certificate Exam, and those who achieve a B2 level or higher on this exam will be granted exemption.

What is the fee for each course at IGUN-TOMER?

  • Currently, the fee for each course at İGÜN-TÖMER is 350 US Dollars (USD).

Do I need to pay the course fee again if I repeat a course at IGUN-TOMER?

  • Yes, if a student/participant has to repeat a course, they are required to pay the fee again.

Can I start at any course level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1) at IGUN-TOMER?

  • A student/participant may register for the next course level if they can provide official documentation proving that they have completed A1, A2, B1, or B2 levels. Based on the submitted document, the last completed course level is determined, and registration is made accordingly.

Which exams are conducted after completing each course at IGUN-TOMER?

  • To advance to the next course, a student must successfully pass the Course Completion Exam for the course they attended. To pass this exam, students must achieve the minimum scores set by IGUN-TOMER in each of the following skills: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. Students who do not achieve the required scores take a make-up exam. If they still do not achieve the minimum scores, they must repeat the course.Course Completion Exams are scored out of 100 points. To advance to the next course:
    • Students must score at least 15 points in each skill (Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking), and
    • Achieve a total score of at least 70 points.

Can I get information about IGUN-TOMER courses and class hours?

  • İGÜN-TÖMER offers five course levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1. Students are taught in separate classes by qualified instructors and are prepared for the Course Completion Exam at the end of each course.Each course exam consists of Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking sections. Students must score at least 15 and at most 25 points in each skill to advance to the next course. Classes at IGUN-TOMER are held 4 days a week, totaling 20 hours per week.

Is attendance mandatory?

  • Yes, students are required to attend at least 70% of the classes. Students who do not meet this attendance requirement are not allowed to take the course exam and are considered unsuccessful.
