Double Major and Minor Applications

Students studying in Turkish-medium programs who wish to pursue a double major or minor in our department must: achieve a passing score on the Istanbul Gedik University English Proficiency Exam, document that they have succeeded in national or international exams whose equivalence is accepted by the Istanbul Gedik University English Preparatory Class Education and Examination Regulation, or acquire language proficiency by completing English Preparatory education.

International students who wish to pursue a double major or minor in Turkish-medium programs must fulfill the conditions set forth in the TÖMER directive or document that their Turkish proficiency is at an adequate level.

Double Major Application Requirements

  1.  Application Period: Students may apply to the Double Major Program at the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of the 5th semester at the latest, of their major undergraduate diploma program (Reference: Article 6, Paragraph (4)).
  2. Registration Limitation: Students cannot enroll in more than one second major program simultaneously. However, they may simultaneously enroll in a second major diploma program and a minor program (Reference: Article 6, Paragraph (10)).
  3. Quota and Ranking: In cases where the number of applicants exceeds the designated quota, priority is given to the student with the higher Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). If CGPAs are equal, the student’s university entrance score in the score type of the program applied for is considered, and priority is given to the student with the higher score (Reference: Article 6, Paragraph (12)).
  4.   Application Achievement Requirements: To apply for a Double Major Program, the applicant must have successfully completed all courses required in their major program up to the semester of application, have a CGPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.00 (70.83 out of 100), and rank in the top 20% of their class in the major program in terms of academic standing (Reference: Article 6, Paragraph (5)).

Minor Application Requirements

  1.  Application Period: Students may apply to a minor program at the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of the 6th semester at the latest, of their enrolled major program (Reference: Article 11, Paragraph (4)).
  2.   Application Achievement Requirements: To apply for a minor program, the candidate must have successfully completed all credit courses required in their enrolled undergraduate program up to the semester of application and must have a CGPA of at least 2.50 out of 4.00 at the time of application (Reference: Article 11, Paragraph (2) and Paragraph (3)).
  3.  Priority Status: In cases where the number of applicants exceeds the quota approved by the University Senate, priority is given to the applicant with the higher CGPA (Reference: Article 6, Paragraph (12)).

* Students who do not rank within the top 20% of their class in the major program but have a CGPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.00 may apply for a Double Major Program, provided that their YKS entrance score is not lower than the base placement score of the target Double Major Program for the relevant year (Reference: Article 6, Paragraph (6)).
