Instructor Sibel Karabel Attended a Roundtable Discussion at the Istanbul Policy Center

On 13 August 2026, Lecturer Sibel Karabel, Director of the Asia-Pacific Strategic Studies Application and Research Center and Head of the Foreign Trade (English) Program at İstanbul Gedik University, participated in a roundtable hosted by the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC), Sabancı University, bringing together scholars from Türkiye and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
The roundtable provided a platform for an exchange of views on a range of interconnected issues, including the future of Türkiye-China relations, U.S.-China competition, AI governance, and the changing place of the Global South in international politics.
One of the key areas of discussion was how China, the United States, and Türkiye approach the Global South from different positions and with different priorities. Participants considered how these perspectives fit into the broader transformation of the international order and the growing role of the Global South in debates over global governance.
The discussion also addressed AI governance as an emerging dimension of U.S.-China competition. Beyond the technological competition between the two major powers, participants considered the wider implications of developments in AI and their potential impact on the current and future dynamics of Türkiye-China relations.
Bringing together different perspectives from Türkiye and China, the roundtable offered a valuable academic setting for discussing Türkiye-China relations within the context of broader transformations in the international system.
