MESSAGE FROM THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR
Sociology, both as a science and a profession, is becoming increasingly significant in the field of academic work and practice. While it examines the social in order to produce scientific knowledge in the academic field, it provides sociological insight to institutions to offer potential solutions to social problems.
Istanbul Gedik University Department of Sociology admitted its first students in 2017. Our department was established with an interdisciplinary approach. Our main goal is to raise sociologists who are willing to examine the society they live in, have strong methodological knowledge and technical abilities, who develop critical thinking skills, establish the cause-effect relationship between events, respect human rights and internalize ethical principles.
With this aim we prepared a curriculum that would encourage our students to become successful both academically and professionally. We hope that the research & learning enthusiasm will expand each year with the staff and the students of the department.
