Constructıon Technology

Program

Nowadays, there is a great need for accumulative, qualified and competent intermediate staff who have acquired the basic knowledge and skills for the needs of the construction sector. Within the scope of Construction Technology Program; technical staff who can take part in applying the plans and projects prepared by the architects and engineers in the construction of engineering structures and who are capable of using and controlling advanced technology devices, laboratories and construction sites are trained. Our graduates are intended to be technical personnel with more theoretical knowledge than technician and more practical skill than engineer in a position between manager and engineer and skillful worker and technician.

Aim of the Program

Our program is a two-year education program which provides the need for qualified manpower needed by the construction sector in both production and after-sales service levels to meet the expectations of the quality and service philosophy that will meet the expectations of the age.

Construction technician; in his/her work, he/she is an intermediate technician who has more theoretical knowledge than technician and has more application skills than engineer between senior manager and/or engineer and technician. In these qualifications, a technician can assume the role of management in small and medium-sized enterprises. Construction Technicians; is a professional group who take active role in construction of buildings such as dams, roads, airports, dwellings, and control services; besides working as technical staff in natural resource, transportation/road, building sections and material test laboratories of public or local administrations.

As the Department of Construction Technology, our aim is to enable our students to be trained as a practice-based intermediate element in the construction field with the knowledge of using the best knowledge and technology tools in the construction offices, drawing on the computer, having enough information about the construction techniques, preparing projects and obtaining the necessary financial calculations.

Vision

Our vision is to be a program both educating Construction Technicians aiming to transform science and technique to the benefit of our country and humanity, knowing how to learn, research and question, having the ability to compete in the international field, being equipped with contemporary knowledge, having national and universal culture and leadership trait; and also doing high level research and contributing to science.

Due to the importance of the construction sector, especially in developing countries; has the task of educating specialized staff who can transfer the theory to practice, can balance the technical and general issues and can adapt to all kinds of technological developments.

Mission

Our mission is to train qualified technical staff, who have adopted concepts and principles, design the projects required to create new systems required by the construction industry, have the necessary skills to ensure manufacturing the products according to the relevant standards and earthquake regulations, have the accumulation to control and ensure that all kinds of productions in the construction sector are made in accordance with the technique, be able to work in public and private sectors, have the habit of continuous learning, enterprising, be prone to team work, can produce solutions, have the ability to research, analyze and synthesize, open to technological developments, sensitive to environmental and cultural values, beneficial to his country and humanity, make scientific research and produce technology to increase the quality of life of the society, have universal thinking ability, have an open mind, have the knowledge and awareness of social responsibility, ethical values and social security rights on issues related to the field.

Concurrently, assisting our students for undergraduate completion in the transition to civil engineering and architecture departments with a vertical transition exam.

Contents of the Program

The Construction Technology Program is a two-year program consisting of 4 semesters of 14 weeks. In this two-year period, theoretical courses, laboratory practices and industry-based instruction are provided. The program is designed to teach students the basic concepts of building and construction of all kinds of structures, as well as to develop hand skills in industrial and laboratory applications.

Achievements of the Program

Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded with associate degree in the field of “Construction Technology Program”. The graduates of the program can transfer to the Civil Engineering Undergraduate Programs and Architecture Programs with a Vertical Transfer Exam. Our university offers a wide range of scholarship opportunities to our graduates. In addition, our graduates can also register directly to the economics and business administration departments of the Open Education Faculty.

As a result of the two-year Construction Technology Associate Degree Program, we are making sure that our graduate students are equipped with the following qualifications by conducting in-class activities and group work, preparing assignments, projects and presentations, and making applications:

Assessment and Grading

Students must register for courses in the program at the beginning of each semester. They are required to attend in at least 70% of the classes and the practical training. Students are assessed by at least one mid-term and one final exam. Their grade are determined by calculating the contribution of mid-term (grades from homework, laboratory exam and practical works can also be regarded as mid-term grade) and final exam. Contribution of the mid-term and the final exam is determined between 40%-60% by the lecturer of the course.

Graduation Requirements

Students who have successfully completed all courses in the Construction Technology Program (equivalent to 120 ECTS credits), have at least 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average, have completed their summer internship for 30 working days and participate in 8 cultural events are eligible to graduate with a pre-license degree in Construction Technology Program.
