The workshop aimed to establish a more systematic, up-to-date, and holistic structure for football coaching education in Türkiye. In this context, football specialization curricula implemented at faculties of sport sciences were evaluated within a common framework, with the objective of ensuring curricular coherence and integrity.
Representing Istanbul Gedik University at the workshop were our Dean, Prof. Dr. Salih Pınar; our Vice Dean, Dr. Cem Akyüz; our Head of the Department of Sports Management, Prof. Dr. Turgay Biçer; and Research Assistant Şerefcan Çakır from the Department of Coaching Education.
As part of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Turgay Biçer contributed to the discussions at Working Group 9, which focused on football philosophy, the fundamental principles of football, the competency levels of coach educators, the alignment of proposed decisions with the Turkish Football Federation, and the establishment of the relevant legal framework.
In addition, Dr. Cem Akyüz and Research Assistant Şerefcan Çakır served as observers in the sessions conducted under the theme of “Foundation Phase” at Working Group 2. These sessions addressed how the learning outcomes and content related to the foundation phase can be effectively integrated into football coaching curricula.
