Prof. Dr. Esra Doğru Hüzmeli’s ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN BMC MEDICAL ETHICS (WOS SCI-E Q1)

The scientific study entitled “Development and Pilot Validation of a European Ethical Framework for Decision-Making in Dementia Care,” co-authored by Prof. Dr. Esra DOĞRU HÜZMELİ, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Gedik University, and conducted within the scope of the European Union-supported EDEM Project, has been published in BMC Medical Ethics, a prestigious international journal indexed in Web of Science SCI-E Q1.

The study developed and pilot-tested the European Ethical Framework for Decision-Making in Dementia Care (EDEM Framework) to support health and social care professionals in addressing complex ethical challenges encountered in dementia care. Developed by a multidisciplinary and international research team, the framework encompasses key ethical principles, including human dignity, autonomy, informed consent, justice, equality, privacy, solidarity, and public responsibility.

The findings demonstrated that the ethical framework had an adequate level of overall content validity and could contribute to the systematic evaluation of ethical challenges encountered in dementia care. In addition to supporting the protection of the rights and human dignity of individuals living with dementia, the EDEM Framework is expected to provide health and social care professionals with a structured and practice-oriented guide for ethical decision-making in clinical practice.

We congratulate Prof. Dr. Esra DOĞRU HÜZMELİ and all researchers who contributed to this important academic achievement and wish them continued success in their scientific studies.
