Our Coaching Education Department Student Deniz Köşgeroğlu Became European Champion!

The European Armwrestling Championships, organized by the European Armwrestling Federation (EAF), were held in Budapest, Hungary between 08–14 May 2026 with the participation of more than 1,300 athletes from 34 countries.

Representing the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Istanbul Gedik University, Coaching Education Department student Deniz Köşgeroğlu competed in the U23 65 kg category. After defeating competitors from 11 different countries in his weight class, the national athlete advanced to the finals and became European Champion by defeating his Russian opponent in the final match.

Speaking after the championship, Deniz Köşgeroğlu said, “It was a great honor for me to represent my country at the European Championships and make our National Anthem heard. My next goal is to prepare in the best way possible for the World Championship to be held in October.”

Held at MTK Sportpark, the championship became the most highly attended event in European Championship history. Athletes from many countries, including Türkiye, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Romania, competed in the organization.
