ISTANBUL GEDIK UNIVERSITY REPRESENTED AT THE DELIVERY CEREMONY OF CAm. ROMAN AND TCG KOÇHİSAR
Prof. Dr. Feriha Erfan Kuyumcu, Acting Rector of Istanbul Gedik University, Assistant Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ali Anıl and Lecturer Güvenç Sorarlı attended the “Commissioning Ceremony of the CAm. ROMAN (261) to the Romanian Navy Forces Command and TCG KOÇHİSAR (P-1221) to the Turkish Navy Forces Command”, held on 20 June 2026 at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command, as invited guests.
At the ceremony held with the participation of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the President of Romania, Mr. Nicușor Dan, CAm. ROMAN (261), built within the scope of the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) Project, was delivered to the Romanian Navy Forces Command, while TCG KOÇHİSAR (P-1221) was delivered to the Turkish Navy Forces Command.
Developed as a continuation of the MİLGEM ADA-Class Corvette Program, the Offshore Patrol Vessel Project aims to meet the increasing operational requirements at sea. Featuring a modular design, the OPVs effectively fulfill near-shore operational requirements in a cost-effective manner and, when required, can rapidly be equipped with longer-range and more capable indigenous weapon systems through the “Fitted for But Not With” system architecture.
During the ceremony, information was shared regarding the project, which stands as an important indicator of defense industry cooperation between Türkiye and Romania. Messages emphasizing the further development of strategic cooperation between the naval forces of the two countries were also conveyed.
