Students of the Visual Communication Design Department Visited the Ara Güler Museum

As part of an extracurricular activity organized by the Visual Communication Design Department of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Istanbul Gedik University, students visited the Ara Güler Museum on May 8, 2026.

The academic technical trip was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Akçay Balcı, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ekrem Çetin Bigat, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Kusay Tatlı. During the event, students had the opportunity to examine Ara Güler’s photographic practice, visual narrative language, and archival approach to urban memory.

Throughout the visit, evaluations were carried out on the documentary nature of photography, framing, lighting, composition, and the relationship between visual memory and imagery. Students also made observations on visual culture and visual storytelling through Ara Güler’s representations of Istanbul.

The event contributed to the development of an interdisciplinary perspective on photography, visual communication, and cultural heritage among the students.
