Training on Addiction Prevention and Combating Addiction Held

The “Training on Addiction Prevention and Combating Addiction” was held by the Department of Nursing at Istanbul Gedik University on September 25, 2026, with the aim of increasing students’ awareness of addiction and improving their knowledge and understanding of addiction prevention and combating addiction.

The training addressed the effects of addiction on individuals and society, as well as the importance of awareness in preventing and combating addiction. The program also included discussions on the role of nurses in addiction prevention, early recognition of addiction, and referring individuals to appropriate healthcare services.

During the event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tuba ÇATAK, Head of the Department of Nursing at Istanbul Gedik University, shared information on the role of nurses in addiction prevention and combating addiction.

Following this session, Police Officer Ömer Kaan GÜVEN from the TUBİM Bureau of the Narcotics Division of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department delivered an informative training session for our students. The session covered types of addiction, the individual and social dimensions of addiction, methods of combating addiction, and the importance of awareness in addiction prevention.

The training, held with the active participation of students, contributed to raising awareness of the responsibilities of healthcare professionals in combating addiction.

As the Department of Nursing at Istanbul Gedik University, we continue to organize educational programs and activities that support our students’ awareness of current issues related to public health, alongside their professional knowledge and skills.
