Sibel Karabel, Director of the Asia-Pacific Strategic Studies Application and Research Center at İstanbul Gedik University, delivered a presentation titled “The Use of Soft Power and Development Assistance: The United States (US) and China.”
In the presentation, the concept of soft power was examined within the framework of development assistance, and the implications for the international system of the competition between the United States and China—shaped through development practices, norm-setting, and institutional influence—were evaluated. In this context, the role of development policies in generating geopolitical influence and constructing strategic leverage was comprehensively discussed. Furthermore, in light of current global developments, the transformation of the development–power–geopolitics nexus was analyzed in a multidimensional manner.
