In the 21st century, profound developments and changes have taken place in all scientific fields and professional disciplines. Undoubtedly, the progress in other areas has also positively impacted the healthcare sector. The medical profession, in particular, benefits from the methods and devices produced by engineering technologies in the research of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Today, medical imaging devices and technicians have become crucial assistants to physicians in diagnosing and treating various illnesses.

According to the regulations defining the duties and authorities for healthcare professionals, Medical Imaging Technicians:

  1. Pay attention to radiation safety measures for patients and staff.
  2. Prepare the medical imaging device and the environment for radiographic examinations.
  3. Control the calibration of devices and inform relevant parties for timely maintenance and repair.
  4. Prepare the patient before radiographic examinations and inform them about the process.
  5. Perform various imaging procedures such as direct or contrast radiography, computerized tomography, bone mineral densitometry, magnetic resonance imaging, and angiography.
  6. Handle film development/printing and electronic recording of images.
  7. Take part in the preservation and disposal of radioactive waste.

Mission and Vision:

The mission and vision of Istanbul Gedik University Vocational School’s Medical Imaging Techniques Program are to train honest technicians with foreign language proficiency, technical knowledge, and skills who can comply with international medical ethical principles. These technicians will be able to provide complete, timely, and comprehensible images and information to support diagnosis and treatment as demanded by healthcare institutions. They will actively contribute to the implementation of public health services, not only in Turkey but also anywhere in the world when required.

Purpose:

The program aims to educate medical imaging technicians who will work in hospitals, imaging centers, and Occupational Health and Safety units.

Objective:

The objective of Istanbul Gedik University Vocational School’s Medical Imaging Techniques Program is to be a leading institution in educating honest technicians with foreign language proficiency, technical knowledge, and skills who can comply with international medical ethical principles. These technicians will be capable of providing complete, timely, and comprehensible images and information to support diagnosis and treatment, and they will actively contribute to the implementation of public health services, not only in Turkey but also anywhere in the world when required.

Who Can Apply to This Program?

After Graduation:

After graduation, students can start their careers as “Medical Imaging Technicians.”

Vertical Transition Opportunities:

Program graduates can have vertical transition opportunities to the Nursing and Health Services undergraduate programs.

Double Major Opportunities:

Our students have the opportunity to pursue a dual major with the “Anesthesia” and “First Aid and Emergency Care” associate degree programs.
