Ethics in Dementia (EDEM) International Meeting Held at Istanbul Gedik University

Hosted by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Istanbul Gedik University, the international meeting titled “Ethics in Dementia (EDEM)”, conducted within the scope of the European COST Action, was successfully held on April 30 – May 1, 2026, at the Halil Kaya Gedik Campus.
Prof. Dr. Esra Doğru Hüzmeli, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and the organizer of the meeting, emphasized the importance of the event in fostering international collaborations.
During the meeting, ethical dilemmas encountered in the caregiving process of families of individuals with dementia and possible solution approaches were discussed. Members of Working Group 5 (WG5), who are currently preparing a book in this field, came together both online and in person. The book, which aims to provide ethical guidance for caregivers of individuals with dementia, is planned to be published by Istanbul Gedik University Press. In this context, Şafak Çelik, representing the Gedik Publishing Board, also attended the meeting.
The meeting brought together international experts in the field and addressed key topics such as ethical approaches in dementia, patient rights, ethical decision-making processes in care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Asst. Prof. Yücel Kamar, Erasmus Office Coordinator, also attended the meeting, where future plans for strengthening institutional collaborations were discussed.
The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Istanbul Gedik University continues to host international scientific events and support academic productivity in the field of health sciences.
