Visual Stories: Frames of Time Exhibition Opens to Visitors

The exhibition titled “Visual Stories: Frames of Time”, organized by the Department of Visual Communication Design at Istanbul Gedik University, opened to visitors on April 14–30, 2026 at the foyer area on the -1st floor of Block B at the Kartal Campus. The opening was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Feriha Erkan Kuyumcu and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zafer Akdemir, as well as Head of the Department of Visual Communication Design Prof. Hayriye Koç Başara, along with academic staff and students. The exhibition will be open to visitors between April 14–30, 2026.
Based on the idea that narrative in visual communication design is constructed not only through text but also through images, frames, and sequential compositions, the exhibition brings together visual storytelling works developed by students through the storyboard technique.
The works presented in the exhibition consist of short visual narratives inspired by Dino Buzzati’s The Colombre and The Bewitched Jacket. Each work reveals how an idea is transformed into a narrative by being processed through visual thinking, divided into scenes, and structured through frames. Design elements such as composition, rhythm, framing, and visual continuity constitute the fundamental building blocks of these narratives.
Shaped around the concept of “fragmenting time into frames,” the exhibition emphasizes that visual storytelling is not limited to the final product, but also encompasses the processes of thinking, structuring, and designing. The storyboards, developed through diverse perspectives, present the ways in which young designers construct visual narratives.
The conceptual design of the exhibition was developed by Prof. Dr. Hayriye Koç Başara and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ekrem Çetin Bigat, while the curatorial process was carried out by Assist. Prof. Dr. Kusay Tatlı and Research Assistant Eylül Ezgi Türker Tatlı. The exhibition features works by students of the Visual Communication Design Workshop II course. Participating students include Batuhan Badem, Deniz Can Çelik, Eflay Melek Demir, Enis Eren Erdağı, Hatice Sıla Yüce, Kaan Yiğit Özacar, Macid Eren Ugar, Nihal Göltaşı, Özge Kaba, Özgün Deniz Talipoğlu, Öznur Kutlu, Sami Yusuf Demirel, Simay Ünal, Sogoud Hany, Şengül Güngör, Yağmur Ergenç, and Zehra Çakır.
