Halil Kaya Gedik, one of Turkey’s first international welding engineers, graduated from Istanbul Yıldız Technical School, Department of Mechanical Engineering, in 1953. After obtaining a mechanical engineering diploma from Germany’s Staatliche Universitat Konstanz, he completed the International Welding Engineering Program at the German Welding Society DVS, specializing in this field.
Working at MAN factory in Germany, Halil Kaya Gedik began his professional career in 1957 at the Welding Group of Eskişehir State Railways Factories and later participated in Turkey’s first domestic car project, “DEVRİM,” in the early 1960s.
From 1963 onwards, he continued his work in the private sector in the field of welding, establishing electrode, casting, valve, and welding machine factories, as well as Turkey’s first facility using precision casting technology.
Playing a pioneering role in the development of the Turkish welding sector, Halil Kaya Gedik established the Gedik Education Foundation (GEV) to promote and provide welding education opportunities to tens of thousands of people in Turkey.
To strengthen industry-university collaboration in our country and support the training of qualified experts for the business world, Halil Kaya Gedik founded Istanbul Gedik University in 2010.
For the contributions he made throughout his lifetime, Halil Kaya Gedik was awarded the “Outstanding Service Medal” by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 2007. He passed away on August 14, 2012. His principles continue to guide Gedik Holding’s future and investments today.
